The first intelligent road inspection vehicle in China was unveiled on the 9th at Hubei Heli Special Purpose Vehicle Manufacturing Company. This marks another breakthrough in the development of independently developed special vehicles, following the recent launch of the Aerospace Ssangyong Special Purpose Vehicle Manufacturing Co. The new vehicle is designed to enhance road safety and maintenance efficiency through advanced AI technology.
According to recent reports, by mid-November, Suizhou City has attracted 172 industrial enterprises focused on special vehicles and their components, positioning itself as a key player in China's special vehicle industry. The city is actively working towards becoming the "Special Car Capital" of the country.
Suizhou's journey in the special vehicle sector began in the 1960s, when it leveraged its strategic location and partnerships to establish three major special automobile plants. These early efforts laid the foundation for talent, technology, and market development in the industry. At the turn of the century, Zengdu District took bold steps to reform and revitalize the sector, awakening local entrepreneurs and unlocking vast industrial potential. Many former workers and managers from the automotive industry started their own businesses, beginning with rented facilities and small production lines.
By 2003, after restructuring, the original two companies were divided into Ssangyong, Warwick, and Dali, giving rise to 16 local special vehicle manufacturers. Last year, specialized gas and component firms operating within the Suizhou and Zengdu development zones achieved an industrial output value of 12 billion yuan, making up over 40% of the city’s total industrial output and establishing the special vehicle industry as its leading sector.
Today, Suizhou is capable of producing 12 types of special vehicles, covering 62 categories and more than 300 models. It has pioneered several domestic firsts, including the largest tank car base, the first sanitation car production and sales, and the first flatbed truck and steel wheel manufacturing. As a result, Suizhou has become one of the fastest-growing, most comprehensive, and competitive cities in China’s special vehicle industry.
With Sanjiang Space Group investing 150 million yuan to restructure Ssangyong, the company is expected to surpass 500 million yuan in annual sales this year. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Wealth Group's Automobile Industrial Park, which has already broken ground, aims to generate 5 billion yuan in revenue. International giants like the U.S.-based Dover Group have also entered into agreements, promising over 3 billion yuan in output value. Major domestic players such as FAW, Futian, and Zhongyu are also showing strong interest in expanding their presence in Suizhou.
