Cummins Fuel Systems Wuhan Plant Opens

On the 8th of this month, Cummins Fuel System (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. officially commenced operations in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first production facility established by Cummins outside of North America. The initial phase of the Wuhan plant involved an investment of $10 million, with the primary focus on manufacturing diesel engine fuel system components such as common-rail fuel pumps, CELECT injectors, and fuel pumps. Wuhan has become a strategic location for Cummins' expansion in China. Alongside the new fuel system plant, the city also hosts the Cummins Distribution Service Center and the East Asia Research and Development Center, further solidifying its role as a key hub for the company's operations in the region. Ray Amung, Vice President and General Manager of the Fuel Systems Business Unit at Cummins Inc., emphasized the importance of advanced fuel systems in optimizing engine combustion and reducing emissions. “With China set to implement the Euro III standard in 2008 and Euro IV in 2011, the Wuhan plant will enable us to deliver cutting-edge fuel technologies to our partners and customers in China,” he said. Hua Jinsheng, vice president of Cummins Inc. and president of the East Asia Region, highlighted the company’s broader strategy. “Integrating innovative clean power solutions with global markets is central to our approach in China. The products from the Wuhan plant will complement Cummins’ engine joint ventures, such as Dongfeng Cummins and Xi’an Cummins, ensuring continued competitiveness in the domestic market.” The Wuhan Fuel System plant is the third major component company established by Cummins in China, following Cummins Turbo Systems (formerly Holcerth) and Cummins Filtration (formerly Fleetguard). In 2008, the Cummins Emissions Processing System Beijing plant will also open, making Cummins the first foreign diesel engine manufacturer to introduce four critical engine subsystems—filtration, air intake, fuel, and aftertreatment—to the Chinese market. Cummins has over 80 years of expertise in fuel system development and production. The Fuel Systems Business Unit serves both Cummins and Scania engines globally, with production facilities located in Indiana, Texas, Juarez, Mexico, and now Wuhan, China. This expansion underscores Cummins’ long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability, and supporting the evolving needs of the Chinese market. With its growing presence in the region, the company continues to reinforce its position as a leader in engine technology and environmental responsibility.
