At the French Culture Year event held yesterday, Reporter Zhou Yang had the opportunity to speak with Louis Swicz, the CEO of Renault Group. During the conversation, Swicz emphasized that Renault plans to introduce a full range of vehicles in China, including mid- to high-end models. He mentioned that Renault and Nissan together rank fourth globally, and while Renault aims to be among the top three in the Chinese market, there is no set timeline for this goal.
Swicz also highlighted the success of Renault's Logan model, which was recently launched in Europe at under 6,000 Euros and has been very well received. He believes the car will have strong competitiveness in the Chinese market as well. The Logan, originally introduced in Romania in September, is part of Renault’s strategy to offer affordable cars in emerging markets like Eastern Europe.
Renault's entry into the Chinese market has not been straightforward. The initial project with Sanjiang Renault failed, and the company has since approached its return with caution. There were multiple discussions about where to establish the production base, but Swicz confirmed on Thursday that the manufacturing facilities will be located in Guangzhou and Wuhan.
He explained, "The launch schedule in China depends on when the Chinese government approves our operations. We expect the first batch of cars, the Megane, to be produced in 2006." Regarding the models, he added, "Some are already being made in France, while others are specifically designed for the Chinese market."
When asked about competition with Peugeot Citroën, Swicz acknowledged that the rivalry exists globally, including in China. However, he expressed confidence that Renault’s market share would grow. "A good product and competitive pricing will ensure market presence," he said. "Of course, effective marketing is also essential. Formula 1, for example, is a great platform for brand promotion."
