On April 2, Praxair (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Meishan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Baosteel Co., Ltd., signed a long-term gas supply agreement. Under the terms of the deal, Praxair (China) will construct two new air separation units, with the first set to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2009 and the second in the third quarter of 2010.
This partnership is part of Meishan's broader strategy to support its parent company, Baosteel, in its mission to become a world-leading steel producer. The new facilities will ensure a steady supply of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon to meet the demands of Meishan’s expansion plans. Combined, the two plants will have a total capacity of approximately 60,000 cubic meters of oxygen per hour.
Before these new installations, Praxair and Meishan had already been operating three air separation units under their joint venture. This long-standing collaboration has spanned over a decade, with Praxair (China) supplying industrial gases to Baosteel and Meishan for more than 10 years.
Praxair (China) is a major player in the industrial gas market, headquartered in Shanghai. The company operates 15 wholly-owned subsidiaries and 10 joint ventures across China, reinforcing its strong presence in the region. This latest agreement highlights the trust and strategic alignment between Praxair and one of China’s leading steel manufacturers.
