Historic 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 2-25-79

This is from Steve Redick:

Here's the radio traffic from a 3-11 alarm with a disaster plan 3 at the infamous 6531 Lowe. This happened while my dad was chief in the 12th Battalion — early in the morning. The chief who usually took over, Bill Foran, was still on duty in the big buggy and hadn't been relieved yet, so he was responding as the division marshal. The captain of Truck 20, who had some classic radio replies, was Richard Fitzpatrick. The voice coming from the Englewood office belonged to Harry Haddon in his prime. This building had extremely long hallways, and masks weren’t widely used back then — people were just hanging around everywhere. It was quite an eventful scene.

These photos give a glimpse into a real firefighting moment from decades ago. It’s fascinating to see how things have changed over time — from equipment to procedures. The chaos and confusion captured here remind us of the challenges firefighters faced back then. Steve Redick has shared more stories like this before, and it's always interesting to hear firsthand accounts from someone who was there. If you're into historical fire scenes or local Chicago history, these kinds of posts are a treasure trove of information.
