5-Alarm ++ fire in Peru (IL) – update

Tim Olk made a trip on Monday to the fire scene in Peru, IL, where firefighters were still battling a massive blaze that had been burning for over 30 hours. The incident had escalated to a fourth alarm, with multiple tanker trucks arriving to support the efforts. Upon arrival, Tim observed ongoing fires and thick smoke spreading across various parts of the complex. He captured numerous photos during his time at the scene, which will be uploaded online shortly. Here are some highlights from his visit. A Pierce tower ladder from the Mendota Fire Department was seen working an elevated master stream into one of the buildings in the Westclox complex. Another Pierce tower ladder, this time from the Peru Fire Department, was deployed at an adjacent structure. Firefighters were using hand lines to tackle the flames, even more than a day after the fire started. A section of the former clock company had been completely destroyed, while water was being pumped from portable tanks by engines from LaSalle and Oglesby fire departments. A tanker from the Standard Fire Protection District was preparing to dump its water supply, and a Darley engine from the Dixon Rural Fire District was actively pumping at the scene. As the heat began to subside, firefighters moved in to douse remaining fires, including a dumpster near burned-out trailers. Even after so many hours, thick smoke still lingered throughout the area.
