Working fire in Park Ridge, 2-18-16 (more)

This is from Steve Redick:

I arrived at the scene on Thursday. There was heavy fire coming from a frame, one-story addition that was attached to the back of the house. Exposure B was in danger for a few minutes before I got there. I think a lot of hidden areas had to be opened up, likely due to the construction style of the addition. Regardless, the fire was quickly brought under control. It's worth noting that the tower ladder, which was the first unit on scene, was used as an engine company and supplied all the attack lines.

It was a tough call, but the crew worked well together. The structure was pretty old, so the layout made things a bit more complicated. We had to make sure we didn’t miss any hot spots. The tower ladder was a big help—using it as an engine really showed how adaptable the crews can be. A few of the firefighters were working hard to contain the flames, and it looked like they managed to prevent the fire from spreading too much. From what I saw, everything went smoothly, and the response was quick and effective. This kind of situation reminds me why we train so hard—it’s all about being ready for anything.
