House fire in Highland Park, 2-12-15

Highland Park firefighters responded to a fire at 24245 St. Johns Avenue this afternoon after workers reported flames in the insulation between the second floor and the attic. The two-story, unoccupied home was under renovation at the time. Upon arrival, first-responding units encountered heavy smoke and upgraded the alarm to Code 4, indicating a working fire. Firefighters quickly took an aggressive approach, successfully containing the blaze to the area of origin. Mutual aid units included Highwood Truck 37, Lake Forest Engine 412, Deerfield-Bannockburn Truck 20, and Northfields Truck 29. On scene, Highland Park units consisted of both ambulances, all three engines, and the chief and battalion chief. The incident highlighted the coordinated response from multiple departments, ensuring a swift and effective firefighting effort.
