Waukegan Fire Chief announces plans to retire

I just heard about this from a friend who sent me the link to the Chicago Tribune article. It’s pretty heartwarming to hear how much Chief Ricco Farrell cares about his family while also being so dedicated to his community. He really seemed to love his job as the fire chief of Waukegan. From what I read, Farrell has been with the Waukegan Fire Department for over three decades now. He mentioned during the City Council meeting that he's planning to step down in two weeks to take care of his aging parents. That’s definitely understandable, especially considering how important family is to him. He even said that they were his biggest supporters throughout his career. It sounds like he had quite the journey to get where he is today. Being appointed as the city’s first African-American fire chief back in 2013 must have been a huge milestone not just for him but for the entire department too. You could tell he truly loved serving the people of Waukegan. Even though he’ll miss working with everyone, he seems genuinely excited about spending more time helping out his folks.
