The massive warehouse fire that broke out in Cicero last Tuesday night was quite the spectacle. Photographer Larry Shapiro captured some incredible images of the chaos and destruction. The scene when I arrived, almost an hour after the fire began, was already intense with towering walls of flames.

The response was extensive, with mutual aid coming from multiple departments including Berwyn, North Riverside, Forest Park, and many others. It was clear this was no ordinary fire.

It’s always humbling to see how communities come together in times like these. Firefighting is a dangerous but crucial job, and it was inspiring to witness the dedication and teamwork on display that night.
