Driven by the sharing economy, many segments such as shared bicycles and shared cars were created. With the rise of modes such as sharing trips and time-sharing leases, more and more car companies at home and abroad have begun to lay out in this area. However, the inability to control costs is one of the major problems that plague the vast majority of shared car companies in the Chinese market.
Numerous vehicle layouts share travel
Before the BMW and Daimler Group announced the integration of the travel business sector, the shared travel platforms launched by car companies were mostly presented in the “single fight†mode.
Previously, Daimler Group had two sharing trips in the Chinese market, namely the "Car2go" and "Car2share", mainly based on smart fortwo models. The BMW Group also established DriveNow, a joint venture with a car rental company, to launch a car sharing service that covers 13 European cities and operates more than 6,000 vehicles.
In November 2016, Volkswagen (China) announced cooperation with Didi Chuxing to accelerate the layout of the automobile sharing and travel platforms. In addition, FAW-Volkswagen brand also recently launched its own shared car service "Mojie trip", and announced that Mojie trip was officially launched in the FAW-Volkswagen sales company on April 2 pilot project, began employee survey.
In addition to the above-mentioned foreign-funded enterprises, there are also a number of self-owned branded car companies in the country that share the layout of the travel sector and have launched car-rental projects. Among them, self-owned brand car companies to promote the sharing of automotive platform operating vehicles are mostly based on new energy, pure electric vehicles.
Take Beiqi New Energy as an example. In May of last year, BAIC New Energy launched the “Light-to-get Travel†shared car platform system, which is mainly operated by Beiqi New Energy EX200 models and is operated in Beijing, Quzhou, Taizhou and Weifang. Geely Group's strategic investment in new energy sharing travel service platform in August last year - Cao Cao's special car was formally launched. Cao Cao's special car is also based on Geely emgrand EV pure electric models. This year, Cao Cao's special car will enter trial operation in some parts of Beijing.
In addition, the time-sharing leasing business of auto brands such as Lifan and Changan Automobile is also progressing. Lifan Group's Panasonic-owned car time-sharing project has set up a time-shared leasing point in the main urban area of ​​Chongqing to launch new energy vehicles. Chang'an Automobile's Changan trip-time-sharing leasing project was also launched in Chongqing. In the early stage, nearly 1,000 new EVs were put into Chongqing as part-time leased vehicles.
Sharing travel cost issues face challenges
With the improvement of living standards, people's travel radius is getting bigger and higher, and the frequency is getting higher and higher. Family cars may be subject to restrictions of one kind or another, so sharing trips are increasingly favored. At present, Beiqi New Energy, Geely Automobile and other companies have introduced travel platforms based on time-sharing of vehicles. However, unlike sharing bicycles, such travel platforms are more susceptible to various factors such as industry barriers, vehicle cost control, and profitability during the operation process.
In October last year, the share car platform EZZY officially announced that the company had terminated the EZZY platform's services and was dealing with follow-up issues, the establishment of a liquidation team to carry out liquidation and repayment. EZZY shared car platform CEO Fu Qiang once said in an interview with the media, EZZY's failure lies in the cost management does not do a good job. "If EZZY's customer unit price is around 30 yuan, then they are likely to pay 60 yuan for this."
Like EZZY, the inability to control costs is one of the major problems that plague most of the shared car companies in the Chinese market.
Compared with start-up companies, traditional car companies have certain advantages in this field. According to industry analysts, traditional car companies have relatively less investment in vehicles. At the same time, domestic self-owned brand car companies are more aware of the Chinese market and better understand consumer demand. However, most of the automakers of their own brand are using new energy vehicles when they share the travel platform. Vehicles still have charging problems after they are used.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National Passenger Vehicle Market Information Association, believes that under the concept of sharing economy, the use of the “Internet + New Energy Time-sharing Leasing†operating model can increase the use of vehicles. But for pure electric vehicles, it also needs to take into account the charging problem. "This requires the ability to introduce a compatible charging model so as to accommodate the needs of shared travel."
