The charge pump operates in 1X, 1.5X, and 2X modes, dynamically selecting the most efficient mode based on the forward voltage and input voltage of each LED. This intelligent selection extends the time spent in 1X mode, maximizing power efficiency. Unlike many integrated solutions, the AAT2803 uses separate charge pumps for backlighting and flash, ensuring that flash performance isn’t compromised during backlighting.
For flash applications, the AAT2803 delivers continuous current up to 120mA and pulse current up to 300mA. A dedicated start pin enhances system flexibility, while built-in thermal protection ensures safe operation under overload conditions. The device also features a smooth start circuit to prevent current surges and a 1MHz switching frequency, which allows for the use of small ceramic capacitors.
The AAT2803 is available in a lead-free, thermally enhanced 24-pin QFN44 package, operating within a temperature range of -40°C to +80°C. Priced at $1.97 per 1,000 units, it offers an attractive solution for designers looking to optimize both performance and cost.
