SAIC Fiat Red Rock Powertrain Co., Ltd. (SFH), located in the North New District of Chongqing, officially opened its doors in 2009. The opening ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Tong Xiaoping, Vice Mayor of Chongqing; Wu Jianong, Vice Chairman of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Director of the Administrative Committee of the Northern New Area; Francoi Amadei, Chairman of Fiat Group China; Xiao Guopu, General Manager of SAIC Motor and Head of the Commercial Vehicle Division; and Zhou Langhui, Vice President of Shanghai Automotive. They all delivered speeches and participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Vice Mayor Tong Xiaoping expressed her warm congratulations on the completion and production of SFH, highlighting it as a major achievement of Chongqing’s cooperation and innovation strategy. She emphasized that SFH represents a significant leap in the development of Chongqing’s diesel engine manufacturing industry. The Chongqing Municipal Government pledged continued support for SFH’s long-term growth. Vice President Xiao Guopu outlined SFH’s vision to become a leading supplier of high-quality, innovative powertrains with a focus on energy efficiency, environmental protection, and new energy solutions. Meng Feixin noted that SFH is well-positioned to provide advanced, high-performance powertrains to China and East Asia. Alfredo Altavilla, CEO of FPT Fiat Power Technologies, sent a congratulatory message, calling SFH one of the most strategic locations for FPT’s global business expansion. SFH is a joint venture between SAIC Iveco Commercial Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd. (SI), Fiat Power Technology (FPT), and Chongqing Heavy-Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (CHVG). It combines international cutting-edge technology with local resources, making it a strong player in the Chinese diesel engine market. As part of the national automobile industry restructuring plan, SFH is set to become a key force in the sector. Despite the challenges posed by the global financial crisis, SFH successfully entered the market, aligning itself with national industrial policy adjustments. Established in June 2007, the company quickly adapted to the evolving landscape. The State Council’s “Regulations for the Adjustment and Revitalization of the Automotive Industry” encouraged innovation, product transformation, and the integration of new energy vehicles. SFH focused on enhancing its manufacturing capabilities while expanding into automotive finance and after-sales services. By leveraging the strengths of its three parent companies—FPT’s advanced power technology, SAIC and CHVG’s local expertise and customer base—SFH has created a highly integrated supply chain. This synergy allows European technology to be combined with local production, ensuring high-quality engines that meet international standards. SFH also implemented strict quality control measures across R&D, procurement, and production to maintain consistency with European-engineered products. To expand beyond the group, SFH focused on market positioning with a commitment to “high performance and high quality.” Its flagship engine, CURSOR9, meets international standards and is tailored for the Chinese market. With a power output of up to 46HP/L, low fuel consumption, and compliance with Euro III, IV, and V emission standards, SFH is well-positioned to lead in the transition to cleaner technologies. In terms of after-sales service, SFH emphasizes customer satisfaction, aiming to “maintain the heart of each car.” It plans to establish service centers in major Chinese cities, offering international-standard power solutions and personalized support to downstream car manufacturers. Since its establishment, SFH has achieved several milestones. In November 2008, it showcased its technological capabilities at BAUMA CHINA 2008. In March 2009, the Cursor 9 engine was launched alongside SAIC Iveco’s JIE SHI heavy truck, marking the first “Made in China” engine from SFH. At the 2009 World Bus Expo Asia, SFH introduced four star engine models to the domestic passenger car industry. Later that year, it made a strong presence at the Shanghai International Auto Show, showcasing three of its top engines: Cursor 9, NEF 6, and F1C. On May 12, 2009, SFH signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chongqing’s bus industry leaders to develop energy-saving and new energy passenger cars. This marked a step forward in responding to national policies and promoting green public transport. On May 22, 2009, SFH officially launched its Chongqing production base, signaling a new chapter in its journey. As SFH continues to grow, it remains focused on “enhancing growth, expanding domestic demand, and adjusting structure.” By integrating resources and addressing market needs, it aims to build core competitiveness and drive the revitalization of the entire industry.
