Chongqing Cummins wrote a chapter in the history of Cummins' 40th anniversary in China. His predecessor was the Chongqing Automobile Engine Plant. Cummins began licensing production in Chongqing in 1981 and reached the first license production agreement in China. In 1995, the cooperation between the two parties was further upgraded and a joint venture was jointly established for Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. This is Cummins' first engine joint venture established in China. Through 20 years of development, Chongqing Cummins has grown into the core of China's advanced high-powered power and is also a key link for Cummins' business in China. In 2014, Chongqing Cummins Engine sold nearly 17,000 units and achieved sales of nearly RMB 3.2 billion.

On January 28, 1995, the "Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. Joint Venture Contract" held a signing ceremony in Beijing. On July 26 of the same year, a joint ribbon company unveiled a ribbon cutting ceremony, marking the official opening of Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd.
On October 6, 1995, the first engine produced by Chongqing Cummins was put into storage, numbered 41030001.
Through continuous technological transformation, in 2000 Cummins Chongqing has reached an annual production capacity of 7000 units, machinery manufacturing capacity and technology levels have greatly improved. In September of the same year, in order to promote the improvement of product quality, the company launched the “Shenzhou Wanlixing†user visit activity which lasted 46 days and traveled 20,000 miles, laying the foundation for future development.
In 2002, the first DY340 Chongqing Cummins Xinwei generator set was successfully developed. The Chongqing Weiming unit produced by Cummins of Chongqing became the only generator set brand of Cummins in China at the time.
In 2003, the company set up the "Cummins East Asia Training Center (Chongqing)" training department, marking Chongqing Cummins formally into the Cummins East Asia Training Center system.
At the end of 2004, Chongqing Cummins began to adopt the Production Execution System (MES), and the production and quality management went to a new level.
In 2005, Cummins Chongqing achieved a double breakthrough in engine production and sales.
In October 2005, the tenth anniversary celebration of the joint venture company and the board of directors were successfully held in Chongqing Cummins.
In 2006, Chongqing Cummins’ sales revenue exceeded 1.4 billion yuan, and reached a record high on the basis of 2005.
In the 2007 annual Chongqing Top 50 Industrial Enterprises Awards, Chongqing Cummins ranked sixth with outstanding operating performance and ranked second among manufacturing companies. Chongqing Cummins has been selected for 15 consecutive years.
In March 2008, the company was awarded the “Most Influential Chongqing Famous Brand Enterprise†by Chongqing Enterprise Federation, Chongqing Entrepreneurs Association, and Chongqing Economic Federation.
In September 2009, the QSK19 engine was put into production.
The 16th Asian Games and Paralympics in 2010 was held in Guangzhou. 46 sets of Chongqing Cummins Engine power units were used as backup power sources for the stadiums, escorting 30 major competition venues.
In November 2011, Chongqing Cummins sold and sold 20,000 engines annually. The QSK38 engine was also put into production in the same year.
In 2012, the Chongqing Cummins Engine mobile power car was used as a mobile power support mission to contribute to the successful launch of the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft.
