Canada encourages the development of a new generation of biofuel

"If you have a new type of cellulosic ethanol or a new generation of biodiesel technology, we hope to help you commercialize it." This is the voice from the Canadian Sustainable Technology Foundation. The foundation issued an invitation on August 18th to call for relevant units to actively apply for a new generation of renewable fuel funds totaling 500 million U.S. dollars. Allegedly, the fund is mainly used to support related companies to use advanced technology to build a new generation of large-scale demonstration equipment for renewable fuels.
“Cellulosic ethanol and the new generation of biodiesel are the future direction of biofuels. Only the production of biofuels from non-food materials can guarantee that there will be no problem of competing with people,” said Vigey Sharp, Chairman of the Canadian Sustainable Technology Foundation. "The new generation biofuel fund managed by the Foundation is mainly used to support such projects in order to bring cellulosic ethanol and a new generation of biodiesel to market as soon as possible, while also ensuring Canada's leading position in the global renewable fuel industry." The so-called new-generation biofuels refer to fuels produced through the application of the latest enzyme conversion technology using non-edible renewable raw materials such as municipal waste, agricultural and forestry wastes, and various plants where marginal lands are growing up at the end of their lives.
Based on the recognition of the importance of developing a new generation of biofuels, the Canadian government proposed to invest US$500 million in establishing a new generation of renewable fuels fund to finance the construction of a new type of biofuel commercialization facility in Canada in the 2007 budget. The Sustainable Development Technology Foundation is responsible for the management and operation of the fund. In September 2007, the Canadian Foundation for Sustainable Development officially launched this fund. Perhaps because it is not yet understood, there are not many companies currently applying for the fund.
According to reports, for eligible projects, up to 40% of project construction funds can be applied through the Canadian New Generation Biofuel Fund. This fee can be repaid over 10 years according to the specific conditions of its cash flow after the project is completed. The fund is open throughout the year and can be applied at any time.
The Canadian Sustainable Development Technology Foundation stipulates that a new generation of biofuels fund must meet the following requirements: First, the applicant must build a device that must be technologically advanced and be able to produce a new generation of renewable fuels on a large scale; second, the project should be built in Canada. Third, the raw materials used in the project should be biomass in Canada; Fourth, the technology used in the project has been proven to be feasible by the pilot test.
