Ford Motor Company announced that it will build its first transmission plant in China. The transmission plant will be built by Changan Ford Mazda, with an initial investment of approximately US$350 million (approximately RMB2.3 billion) and will be located in the northern part of Chongqing’s new district. Construction will begin before the end of July 2011 and commence in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Ford said that the plant will produce a six-speed automatic transmission with an initial annual production capacity of 400,000 units. Ford’s joint venture company in China, Chang’an Ford Mazda Automobile, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chongqing Municipal Government regarding the construction of the plant.
