China's coal export license will be halved this year

In late January of this year, four companies authorized by the National Development and Reform Commission, including China Coal Group, Shenhua Group, Minmetals Group, and Shanxi Coal Import and Export Corporation, received the 2008 coal export licenses.
According to relevant sources, the number of coal export licenses this year is more than 40 million tons, which is nearly half of the 70 million tons in 2007. If according to last year's situation, this year's coal exports could not actually reach more than 40 million tons, because last year's actual export volume was reduced by about 20 million tons compared to the number of permits.
According to statistics from the State General Administration of Customs, in 2007, China exported 53.17 million tons of coal and 51.02 million tons of cumulative coal imports, with a net export volume of approximately 2.15 million tons. Due to the impact of blizzard in China, coupled with Australia's recent interruption of supply of coal due to flooding and South African coal supply, coal prices in the international market have risen recently. Therefore, China's coal prices in countries such as Japan and South Korea are expected to double.
