The related research work was published in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces 2017, 9, 5692-5698) under the title Bioinspired Design of Strong, Tough, and Highly Conductive Polyol-Polypyrrole Composites for Flexible Electronics. The first author of this paper is Gao Fengxian, a doctoral student at the 2014 level of Anguang.
The research team adopted a bionic design concept to synthesize a series of polyol-doped polypyrrole composite materials by simulating animal skin. Through the cross-linking of non-covalent bonds, a dynamic network structure is formed between the polypyrrole chain and the polyol. This structure can effectively dissipate the destructive energy from the outside world, greatly improving the strength and toughness of the material, making it superior to the traditional polypyrrole. At the same time, the researchers found that the polypyrrole (PEE-PPy) doped with pentaerythritol ethoxylate with a four-branch structure has the most excellent mechanical energy: elongation at break of 75%, good flexibility, and high tensile strength 125MPa, Elastic toughness 73MJ/m3, higher than the natural silk (70MJ/m3). In addition, PEE-PPy has good conductivity and conductivity of up to 115 S/cm. The excellent mechanical properties and electrical conductivity make this flexible polymer composite material have a good application prospect in the field of flexible electronic devices.
